Gloria Romero Endorses Lanhee Chen for State Controller
Mountain View, CA – Today, Lanhee Chen, candidate for State Controller, announced the endorsement of former California Senate Democratic Caucus Chair and Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero.
“The Sacramento insiders have no interest in accountability for spending in our state,” said Romero. “Tens of billions of dollars in federal aid were sent to California’s public schools during the pandemic, but we have little to no sense of how that money was used. We need Lanhee Chen in the Controller’s office to bring accountability and transparency to our state’s finances and to finally truly follow the money to show us where the money flows. A go-along-to-get-along Controller is the last thing our state needs during this critical time. An outsider, independent voice like his is why I trust and endorse Lanhee.”
Chen added, “Senator Romero has been a consistent advocate for quality education in California and a leader in our state’s Hispanic community. I am grateful that she has crossed party lines to lend me her support, and I look forward to working with her to ensure we have accountability and transparency in state spending on public education and beyond.”
Romero was elected to the 24th Senate District in 2001, representing East Los Angeles and the greater San Gabriel Valley. She was elected by her peers to serve as Senate Democratic Caucus Chair and as Senate Majority Leader, the first woman to ever hold that leadership position in the history of the California State Senate. Romero served as Chair of the Senate Education Committee, the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Subcommittee on Education, and the Chair of Public Safety, making her one of the most influential voices on education policy in California.
