Lanhee Chen Announces Los Angeles County Leadership Team

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – Today, California State Controller candidate Lanhee Chen announced that Senate Minority Leader Scott Wilk, Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Sen. Bob Huff (ret.), Asm. David Hadley (ret.) and Mayor Mario Guerra (ret.) will serve as Los Angeles County campaign co-chairs.

“I grew up in Los Angeles County, and am humbled by the support of this group of extraordinary leaders who will captain my effort there. With their help, I will be our state’s fiscal watchdog and ensure our tax dollars are spent as we are told they will be,” said Lanhee Chen. “It’s an honor to have the support of this group of leaders, who have represented residents across the 4,700 square miles of the County.”

Lanhee was raised in Rowland Heights, a Southern California suburb, and is the son of immigrants from Taiwan. After earning four degrees from Harvard University, including a law degree and doctorate in political science, he served in senior roles in both Republican and Democratic presidential administrations.

“Lanhee Chen is the proven leader that California needs as its next Controller. I am proud to endorse his candidacy because I know he will bring accountability and transparency to Sacramento. I look forward to working with him to ensure that we protect taxpayers across our state and address the big fiscal challenges we face,” said Senate Minority Leader Scott Wilk.

“It is time that we value clarity and consistency over partisanship and elect a State Controller focused on accountability and transparency. We don’t need another politician looking to use the office as a stepping stone. Californians need an independent fiscal watchdog like Lanhee Chen who will make sure that our tax dollars are being spent efficiently,” stated Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

Lanhee is regarded as one of America’s leading policy commentators and experts. He has helped leaders in California and around the country develop policies to address some of our society’s most pressing problems—like improving our health care system, saving Social Security, and growing our economy. Most recently, he has taught at Stanford University and conducted research at the Hoover Institution, a public policy think tank.

“With soaring gas prices and rising inflation, family budgets are being squeezed. California needs an independent fiscal watchdog who will make sure our tax dollars are being spent appropriately and who can root out waste. The partisan games of the past need to end. California’s State Controller should be working for the people of California and not beholden to Sacramento insiders,” commented former Senate Minority Leader Bob Huff.

“Now more than ever, we can’t afford to recycle the same old politicians from one job to another. Californians face some difficult financial situations, and we need a fiscal expert like Lanhee Chen, who will advocate for us by making sure our tax dollars are not being wasted,” said former Assemblyman David Hadley.
